Can CBD Oil Potentially Help People Who Have ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyper Activity Disorder (ADHD) is a common disorder that can strongly hinder someone’s life. The typical symptoms include impulsiveness, insomnia, and an inability to focus. Across the world, this disorder runs rampant through youth and general demographics. Typical medical options include highly addictive amphetamines and other medications such as benzodiazepines, which are similarly addictive. While there is research to suggest the efficacy of both options, many people are hesitant to rely on such chemicals.

On the other hand, CBD oil is a nonaddictive and non-psychoactive substance that may prove to be able to treat ADHD or at least symptoms of it. Research is limited on this topic, but anecdotal evidence ranges from glowing reviews to disinterest. A doctor can’t prescribe CBD oil to you, but it’s still easy to find and hosts a myriad of potential benefits.

How Could CBD Oil Help Those With ADHD?

On a case by case basis, CBD Oil is a fine option for treating ADHD. As long as individuals are careful about what products they procure, CBD can be a clean option for addressing symptoms. The research isn’t there to back it up, but there are reasons to believe it can help.

Some evidence exists to suggest CBD oil is effective in treating anxiety and sleep problems. Many people with ADHD suffer from both of these symptoms, so by using CBD Oil, as a capsule or otherwise, some patients have found relief. Around 50% have found that CBD oil was not effective, but the rest report mitigation of symptoms. A study from 2013 found that those with ADHD subtypes where hyperactivity and impulsivity are present were more likely to use cannabis to treat their symptoms.

CBD Oil may be an option for such people to medicate how they are comfortable while getting off cannabis. While cannabis is a wonderful alternative medicine, it has over 100 active compounds. This makes it incredibly difficult to predict, and especially difficult to predict how it will interact with ADHD. By limiting cannabis consumption to a single cannabinoid, such as CBD, individuals with ADHD may be able to limit interactions with their disorder.

Is CBD Oil Safe?

The FDA released an update in late 2019 warning of CBD consumption. Due to the lack of regulation on the industry, and the lack of research, CBD products can be dangerous. For those interested in trying, or continuing to use it for their treatment, they must do their due diligence. Lab-tested products from dispensaries are the only safe bet, and only if the lab is trustworthy. Make sure to know what you’re putting in your body, and what you’re using to treat your ADHD.
